The parking lot at the Wakulla County Shrine Club was nearly filled to capacity by the the 10 a.m. start of the inaugural Family Fun Day presented by the Wakulla Animal Group (WAG), and supported by several other animal rescue agencies,But the stars of the day were the number of dogs (puppies and adults) in need of new homes. One of those was Lila Lu, a tall, blonde colored beauty who may have been a boxer mix.

Call it the “luck of the Irish,” but the weather was ideal last Saturday, March 15, for the 22nd Annual Crawfordville Lions Club parade; the sky a mix of clouds and sun, the temperature warm, the climate comfortable. Among those readying float entries as Robert DeLong, with Authentic Life Church. “This is my second year,” said DeLong, who hails from Arkansas; a job transfer brought he and his family to Crawfordville, and all were participating in the parade.

Emily Rawlings knows first-hand how daunting it is, breaking away from tradition and forging one’s own path in life. Not too long ago, she arrived at that proverbial fork in the road. Should she follow the course many in her family had taken, and go into the medical profession as had her parents – her mother is a radiologist and her father is a surgeon? Rawlings gave it her best effort, starting by earning her Associate’s degree in biology at Tallahassee State College.

According to Rachel Pienta, with the UF/IFAS Wakulla County extension office who works with the county’s 4H program, a page was borrowed from another youth organization, specifically the call to action, “Be Prepared.”“Last year we had to cancel Wakulla Wonderful because of the bad weather,said Pienta. “People were very disappointed.” Thus the decision was made Friday morning to move the event indoors to the UF/IFAS facility located at nearby 84 Cedar Ave.
