For most of their Monday night battle against Olean, the defending Class B Champion Lions of Wellsville had reached that particular stalemate. With Huskies hurler Austin Miles holding his own across a pair of quick innings that saw him finish with just over 10 pitches combined, that was efficiency at its finest, to keep the Lions on their feet.

FILLMORE — There was plenty of uncertainty to go around entering Saturday morning for much of the area, after the rain began to come down left and right all throughout the overnight hours. When dawn arrived in its entirety, an overwhelming abundance of rain puddles surrounded almost every field in the County, forcing much of the weekend’s action to be postponed. But as the clock struck 11 a.m. on the turf softball field in Fillmore, there was a break in the sky. No more rain. It was time to game.

WELLSVILLE — Pitching has been the main focal point of emphasis for the Lions of Wellsville to start their Class B title defense. In Monday’s season opener at Allegany-Limestone, three different pitchers for the black and orange came together to hand out nearly 20 chairs against the Gators in their 7-2 victory. With it, the pitching has been paired alongside with the presence of timely hitting, which fueled the Lions to branch out their advantage down the stretch.

BOLIVAR — The chilly and blustery conditions that surrounded much of the area on Wednesday tabled the majority of action that was set to take place in Allegany County. But for the Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg, they went back to business on their home turf.
