By Rebecca Olds | A dedicated space for West Jordan’s Cultural Arts Society has been in the works for a long time, making the public wonder if the West Jordan Community and Arts Center would ever be built. When Mayor Dirk Burton announced the new center would finally be moving forward, the whole auditorium erupted in cheers after the Youth Theater’s performance of Tarzan in early 2024.

Hundreds of teen anime fans descended on the West Jordan Viridian Event Center (8030 S. 1825 West) on Sept. 15 and 16 to participate in the 11th ToshoCON event. The convention is a realm where passionate fans bring their favorite characters to life through intricate cosplay and gaming. Hosted by the Salt Lake County Library, ToshoCON featured teen-led panel discussions, vendors, teen-owned businesses, K-pop random dances, food trucks, anime music videos, comic and art contests.

A former Copper Hills standout baseball player was selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. The first such pick for the school and community. Brayden Taylor graduated from Copper Hills High School in 2020 amid the COVID pandemic and a canceled senior baseball season. After that dreadful season end his then coach Joel Sundquist called him the best. “I consider him the best player in the state,” Sundquist said after the 2020 school year.

Jordan School District collaborated with SchoolAI.com to test and develop an AI tool specifically for use in the classroom. “We did a summer pilot with 100 teachers, and 100% of the 100 teachers loved it and want to continue it,” Jordan District Communications Director Sandy Riesgraf said.
