Cinnabon and Carvel have combined forces, bringing the nation’s first Cinnabon Swirl to Peoria on May 23. Anyone driving in Downtown Buckeye knows changes are underway along Monroe Avenue. Last year, the city began Stage 1 of an extensive improvement plan in the neighborhood, restriping Monroe Avenue from a four-lane configuration to a two-lane configuration from Miller Road to Narramore Avenue. The city’s Downtown Specific Area Plan envisions downtown as a walkable, welcoming community. Now, the city council is deciding what might be next.

The Buckeye City Council approved its tentative budget for the upcoming fiscal year, setting the city’s maximum spending authority at $819.7 million. The council unanimously adopted the tentative budget on May 20, two weeks before the city reviews the final budget on Tuesday, June 3. “Once the tentative budget is adopted, the final budget may be reduced, but it cannot be increased,” Buckeye Budget Manager Gregory Luethje said.

Initial results are in for the Goodyear special election, which posed six questions to residents. Where voters approved franchise agreements in the May 20 mail-in election, they opposed all but one change to the city charter. As of Friday, May 23, at 5:32 p.m., there were 12,455 ballots cast in the election, a 18.62% turnout among residents. Results have not yet been declared official.
