WHSN-FM (Bangor, ME)

WHSN (89.3 FM) is a radio station that plays alternative rock music. It is based in Bangor, Maine, and serves the surrounding area. The station is owned by Husson University and is operated by students from the New England School of Communications, which is located on the same campus. WHSN was managed by Husson University when it first launched until the mid-1980s, when NESCom relocated from its original site to the Husson campus. In 2006, the station enhanced its broadcasting capabilities by increasing its power from 140 watts to 3,000 watts and relocating its transmitter to a spot behind the NESCom building. In July 2016, WHSN earned recognition as a finalist for a Marconi Award for Non-Commercial Station of the Year.
