    Last month, Blake Donaldson came to the rescue of Mangyon “Mani” Zhang, 57, when she was attacked by a bull shark at Gunyah Beach in Bundeena, Australia. Donaldson and his partner, Ellen Melchert, were the only others on the beach when they heard Zhang scream for help. Without hesitation, he ran into the ocean and pulled Zhang, who had a severe leg injury, back to shore while Melchert administered first aid.

    A turtle at a Halifax, Nova Scotia, museum has a new foot thanks to some Legos. The wood turtle, named Root, came to the Halifax museum in September from the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, and his front right foot was missing which caused his shell to drag when he walked. One of the museum's naturalist interpreters came up with a solution inspired by a Lego exhibit at the facility in December. They used a small dog harness, a Lego platform and Lego wheels to create a “foot” for Root's right side.

    Teens Andy Goforth and Daven Hug are being praised for helping save more than a dozen people from a fire at the Village Apartments retirement community in Nashville, Illinois. Last Wednesday evening, they noticed smoke while driving home and rushed to the scene. Hearing people screaming, they immediately called 911, but after learning that emergency responders wouldn’t be there right away, they entered the building themselves to help evacuate residents.

    A group of good Samaritans recently helped save a mother and her two small children from an attempted kidnapping outside a DMV office in Jacksonville, Florida. Witnesses saw a man trying to drive away in an SUV while dragging the woman and one child across the parking lot. Bystanders quickly intervened, rescuing the woman, her two-year-old, and her six-month-old from the moving vehicle.
