This station works in conjunction with WSIU (91.9 FM), which is an NPR member and Public Radio International affiliate, and is also located in Carbondale. WSIU-TV has its studio facilities situated on the university's campus, while its transmitter can be found along US 51, close to Tamaroa.

    The Southern Illinois University Simmons Law School will begin a series of mobile legal clinics in the region next week to provide free, onsite assistance for senior citizens wanting to prepare health care power of attorney. The legal clinic’s Senior Summer Sessions begin Tuesday, June 10, at the Murphysboro Senior Center and will run through July 31, with site visits to each of the 13 southernmost counties the clinic serves. Participants must be age 60 or older and live within those 13 counties.

    Refuge staff and Illinois Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologists have been taking advantage of the drawdown on Little Grassy Lake. A social media post by the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge reports over the past several weeks 1,800 trees were planted in the lake. Fisheries biologists hope that these trees will grow during the drawdown period and provide additional fish structure when the lake is refilled.

    The 2025 Southern Illinois Back to School Expo has been canceled. The Franklin-Williamson Positive Youth Development Action Team said it made this difficult decision to cancel due to lack of funding and funding challenges that ultimately support the event. The action team said it's currently working diligently to find new opportunities, funding, and options to hold the Expo in 2026.
