WSIU-TV is a PBS-affiliated television station that broadcasts on virtual channel and VHF digital channel 8. It is based in Carbondale, Illinois, and is owned by Southern Illinois University. This station works in conjunction with WSIU (91.9 FM), which is an NPR member and Public Radio International affiliate, and is also located in Carbondale. WSIU-TV has its studio facilities situated on the university's campus, while its transmitter can be found along US 51, close to Tamaroa.

Homefield Energy introduces new rates for Carbondale's aggregation program

The company contracted with the City of Carbondale's energy aggregation program has released a new, 12-month fixed electric rate that will start on June 1. The new aggregated rate from Homefield Energy will be $0.11789 per kilowatt hour. Residents will soon be receiving letters from Homefield Energy on these current rates. City officials say if you wish to participate in the City's negotiated aggregation rate you do not need to do anything further after receiving your letter.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have fired manager Derek Shelton. The former Saluki player was in his sixth season in the Pirates dugout. He had a .410 winning percentage at 306-440. The team started this season with a 12-26 record, the 3rd worst record in Major League Baseball. Pirates Bench Coach Don Kelly has been named manager. Shelton was on the last Saluki baseball team to reach the NCAA Tournament, back in 1990. He played 46 games in the minor leagues. He began his professional coaching career in 1997.
