Marion Connects hosts Third Thursday events on Tower Square. You’re invited to join the fun on the Marion Square for free family activities on the third Thursday of each month. Tomorrow brings a country theme with line dancing, live music and food trucks. There will be vendors & fun for the whole family around the square beginning at 6pm.

The City of Carbondale has been selected as a recipient of a $46,000 Hometown Grant from T-Mobile, one of only 25 communitiesnationwide—and one of just two in Illinois. T-Mobile’s Hometown Grants program is aimed at revitalizing and enriching local communities. The community is invited to join in the celebration and check presentation for this grant award at the Brown Bag Concert Tomorrow (Wednesday) at Noon at the Town Square Pavilion.

ON THIS DAY in 1971 Carole King's album "Tapestry" goes to #1 on US album charts and stays there for 15 weeks. In Carbondale, the iconic Sunset Concert Series continues this week with family-friendly live music at SIU’s Shryock lawn and Carbondale’s Turley Park. Concerts run Thursday evenings through July 24 and feature a diverse lineup of performers. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music under the stars. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and last about two hours.

Carbondale police officers conducted a traffic stop Tuesday on a vehicle in the 300 block of East Oak Street for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. Officers arrested Austin B Dedecker, 19 years old of Carbondale, Julius J. Word, 20 years old of Carbondale, and a 17-year-old juvenile of Carbondale, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
