TIFTON, Ga. – Tift County Animal Shelter is putting out an urgent call for foster homes to help care for orphaned kittens. Many of these kittens are too young to eat on their own or survive without a mother. The shelter needs loving temporary homes to raise them until they’re old enough to be adopted. All supplies, including food and litter, are provided by Tift Animal Rescue. All they need is your time, care, and compassion.

Tift Co. Board of Education Adopts FY26 Budget Providing Tift Taxpayers With Property Tax Relief

TIFTON, Ga. – The Tift County Board of Education approved the Final Consolidated Budget for Fiscal Year 2026 that will provide Tift Taxpayers with property tax relief in the coming year. The approved budget, which takes effect on July 1, 2025, is based on a reduction in local tax revenue for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. According to Tift County Schools Superintendent Natalie Gore, the reduction is tied to an anticipated rollback in the millage rate.

TIFTON, Ga. – Southwell is saddened to share that Dr. Larry R. Moorman, a long-time ophthalmologist who served patients in our region for nearly four decades, passed away this week at the age of 80. Dr. Moorman began his career in ophthalmology in Douglas in 1975 and later moved to Tifton in 1978 to open his own practice. Over many years, he provided expert eye care to thousands of patients as the owner of Tifton Ophthalmology, which later became Tift Regional Ophthalmology.

South Georgia airports to receive federal grants for upgrades

TIFTON, Ga. – The Henry Tift Myers Airport in Tifton and the Turner County Airport in Ashburn are among 31 regional airports in Georgia receiving federal grants for upgrades. The Tifton airport is getting $282,000, and the Ashburn airport will receive $56,500, Georgia’s U.S. Sens. John Ossoff and Raphael Warnock announced recently. The grants are among more than $13 million in federal funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law to upgrade and help maintain Georgia’s regional airports.
