Georgia Podmore started loaning Beau, an 18-year-old former trekking pony, at the beginning of February and is full of praise for how he has helped her to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). “I have found my perfect loan pony and didn’t realise how much I needed Beau in my life,” said Georgia.

Rainbow Equine Hospital in Malton have saved the life of a horse by using revolutionary surgery to remove a large mass in its stomach. Surgeons used a ground-breaking keyhole technique to remove the 12cm-long tumour from Valtano, a 15-year-old 17.1hh Anglo English Studbook Warmblood who is owned by Katie Boddy. The tumour was discovered by Rainbow vet Lizzie Cullen, a European specialist in equine internal medicine, when she examined Valtano for suspected stomach ulcers.

A young stallion who was found running loose on the M32 has found his forever home with the lady who rescued him. Jade Plummer, who runs Blossom Hill Equestrian, a livery yard in Gloucestershire, was driving back from Wales on Thursday 15 May with her friend Rosie Tibbenham when they saw a horse running down the M32. The pair followed the horse in their car and tried to catch him as he continued down the M32 and onto the slip road to the M4.

The Donkey Sanctuary and the National Equine Welfare Council (NEWC) have combined with several other equine charities to secure the future of a group of donkeys and horses who were set to lose their home following the closure of Tettenhall Horse Sanctuary. Tettenhall Horse Sanctuary in Wolverhampton was founded by Billy Wilson in 1979 and has been closed in part due to financial pressures, as well as the founder’s ill health.

A landmark study exploring different grazing management systems has shown that track grazing is an effective way to manage equine obesity, which is a serious threat to horse health. The research, which has been carried out by equine welfare charity HorseWorld in collaboration with the equine department at Hartpury University, monitored 19 horses at HorseWorld for four months.
