An anonymous donor recently gifted Paul Quinn College, a private four-year HBCU in Dallas, Texas, $20 million. Paul Quinn is widely known for being the creator of the Urban Work College model, which gives students attending the institution direct access to the workforce in their field. This program provides students with years of experience before they walk across the stage at graduation. They also are the only minority-serving, federally recognized Work College in America.

The youth unemployment rate, as of July 2024 stood at 9.8%, an increase from the 8.7% rate in July 2023. The rate usually fluctuates seasonally, with higher activity during the summer months when more young people enter the job market for summer employment or following graduation. By August 2024, the rate stood at 9.7%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. During the school year, some teens and young adults get jobs at retail and grocery stores, fast food places and restaurants.

Every other year, The HBCU Week Foundations hosts a college fair to help prepare high schools with the resources they need to enroll, scholarships to help lower student loan debt and spread awareness about HBCUs. The organization provides scholarship dollars for matriculation and sustains a pathway for employment from college to corporate America. This year, the nonprofit will host the two-day fair Oct.
