Looking at property tax data and census information, the Lahaina Community Land Trust found that buying a single-family home on Maui, especially on the west side, has been unattainable for about 25 years.

MAUI, Hawai'i (Island News) -- Two years after the Nakoa luxury yacht got stuck in Honolua Bay and damaged about 1,600 meters of live rock and more than 100 coral colonies, conservationists this week returned 246 rehabilitated coral fragments to the area that the boat damaged. After the 2023 grounding, the Nakoa's owner was slapped with a $1.8 million fine. Now, John Carty of the Save Honolua Coalition acknowledged good news such as the coral's restoration doesn't often come out of the bay.
