    The weeks before graduation are filled with lasts. The last time you suffer through a three-hour lecture class, the last time trying to stomach the dining hall food, the last time walking across sticky college bar floors with your roommates, the last time writing for your school newspaper. It’s truly bittersweet to think about, reflecting back on the three years of time I gave to this university and this community.

    Nearly half of the U.S. population watches national-level sports at least once a month, with numbers ringing in at a whopping 161.1 million viewers forecasted for 2024, according to Statista. But I would bet that less than 2% understand the business behind them. I’m not talking about draft picks, compensation or sports betting.

    I never thought that a phrase coined on social media would become the heart of one of my most significant opinions, yet here we are. The phrase “don’t yuck my yum,” otherwise meaning don’t disparage my personal tastes simply because they’re not your own, has become more and more meaningful to me in the last year. When it comes to personal preference, I always try not to project my own thoughts and feelings onto others, whether that’s foods, clothing, entertainment or their choice in friends.

    I’ve been a fan of Billy Joel’s music ever since I was 6 years old singing “Piano Man” in the kitchen with a wooden spoon for a microphone. So much so that my right arm dons a tattoo that reads “Vienna waits for you.” When I discovered he was releasing new music for the first time in nearly two decades, I was ecstatic. Joel’s last releases in 2007 were “All My Life” and “Christmas in Fallujah,” with his last album, “River of Dreams,” released in 1993. Now Joel is finally back for an encore.
