Over 200 Ladakhi people of all ages, left Leh on 2nd September 2024, walking in peaceful procession over very difficult high-altitude, mountainous terrain, to reach Delhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, 2nd October 2024. The purpose of the Ladakhis’ peaceful and disciplined procession led by Shri Sonam Wangchuk, is to express and convey the aspirations and demands of Ladakhi people to the Central Government.

We, 85 organisations and movements across India, express solidarity with the ‘Delhi Chalo’ footmarch that people of Ladakh have embarked on, on 1st September. This Yatra highlights continued neglect of the region’s legitimate demands for special Constitutional status, enabling its people to protect their land, culture, environment and economic interests. It is in the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent marches against colonial injustice, such as the Salt (Dandi) March.
