JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT)— The Great American Eclipse is less than a month away, and excitement is building nationwide. Millions of Americans are in the path of totality. NASA Space Weather Director Jamie Favors said when the moon fully obstructs the sun, you will see something you cannot see usually. “You actually get to see the really faint outer atmosphere of the sun that we normally can’t see here from earth,” Favors said.

(KAIT) - As we countdown to the Great American Eclipse, many are picking up or buying eclipse glasses, which is a vital piece of protection for the day. “So, whatever you do, remember rule number one, do not look directly at the exposed sun,” Blytheville Optometrist Dr. Matthew Jones said. It may seem like common sense to not look directly at the sun on any normal day, but it also applies on solar eclipse day as well.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - We are two months from the Great American Eclipse, and the event is certain to be a fantastic teaching moment for area educators. In the Nettleton School District, they’re preparing high school students to teach elementary school students about the big event. “It will be something that will stick with them forever,” said Tracy Woodruff, a high school science teacher. The eclipse is expected to be an unforgettable experience for young and old alike.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Jan. 21-22, 1999 was a day and night forever sketched into Arkansas weather history. During the afternoon and night of the 21st into the 22nd, 58 tornadoes touched down in Arkansas, making it the largest single tornado outbreak in state history. Most tornadoes tracked along Interstate 30 and Highway 67 corridors near Texarkana to Clay County. One of the first tornadoes to touchdown was in Greene County around 4:30 PM near the community of Evening Star.
