The 2025 NBA Draft Lottery brought a tough break for the Toronto Raptors. Entering the night with the seventh-best odds, Toronto fell two spots and landed at No. 9 overall, a frustrating outcome for a team that had hoped to move up into the top four. They will also select again at No. 39 early in the second round.

It just wasn’t their night. After months of hoping the ping-pong balls might bounce in their favour, the Toronto Raptors fell two spots Monday night and will now pick ninth in the 2025 NBA Draft. It’s a small slide after finishing with the seventh-worst record in the league. Without any top-four luck, Toronto is now out of the Cooper Flagg conversation. The focus now shifts to long-term development and possibly finding their centre of the future.

Ninth isn’t ideal, but it’s not exactly a disasterThe Toronto Raptors entered Monday night’s NBA Draft Lottery hoping to move into the top four or at the very least stay put at No. 7. The odds of climbing weren’t in their favour, and the basketball gods didn’t intervene. Instead, Toronto will pick ninth overall in a draft class that many believe is wide open once the first few selections are off the board.

The ping pong balls were not kind to the Toronto Raptors. Despite entering the lottery with a 19.7% chance to stay at No. 7, Toronto fell to No. 9, getting jumped by both Dallas and San Antonio. It’s a tough break for the Raptors, who had their eyes set on a higher pick in what’s considered a top-heavy draft class. Now, they’re left sifting through the middle of the lottery, where the talent pool is still solid but far less certain. There’s still value to be had, though.

It’s all on Masai Ujiri. The Toronto Raptors have turned to their president and vice chairman to represent the team on stage Monday night at the NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago. With a 31.9% chance of landing a top-four pick, Ujiri will be tasked with bringing some much-needed luck as Toronto eyes a potentially franchise-altering selection. While Ujiri takes the stage, Raptors general manager Bobby Webster will be in the back room, where the official draw takes place.

I know it’s popular to say a player, but I don’t think like Jamal Shead is going to burst with excitement if the Raptors get the No. 1 pick. Honestly it should be Nav or some other die hard who will adequately emote the feelings of the fans

Who should represent the Raptors at the lottery?

The Celtics are somehow still the favorites to win the series despite a 2-0 hole heading to New York on @BodogCA. Seems so strange to me https://t.co/DcPwKPQg4Y
