Aasmah Mir appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2017 In 2017, my daughter was 18 months old, hardly sleeping and I was only working two short days a week. Yes, it was on a job I loved – Radio 4 – and I was ridiculously lucky to have become a mother at the age of 43, but I was going crazy. So when my agent suggested Celebrity MasterChef, I jumped at the chance. But on the first day on set, I had a nasty shock. I placed my first dish down in front of Gregg Wallace and John Torode and the...

I had no idea until this week that just 5 per cent of women in their early forties get pregnant from IVF. I learnt this in an interview with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority on Times Radio. Its latest report makes pretty depressing reading if you want to have kids but haven’t got there yet. If I had known, I doubt I would have tried. But I did try, and after two rounds of IVF I became pregnant in 2014 at the age of 43. I fully acknowledge my insane good luck.

Ahhh, the Euros. Every four years — OK, not absolutely every four years, but we’ll come to that — I am reminded how supporting Scotland requires you to take on multiple personalities. You must be deluded but self-deprecating; you must be optimistic but bitter; you must get very drunk while at the same time sheltering an old German man with a Zimmer frame from the rain with an umbrella, as seen in Cologne last week. You must belt out Flower of Scotland while getting tonked 5-1 by Germany.

I have written before about the full blood transfusion I had to have when I was born in Glasgow in 1971. My mum had to remind me when I was writing my memoir. Even after writing about it here, I failed to make the connection between the infected blood inquiry, which began in 2018, and my own blood transfusion. More than 30,000 people in the UK were infected with HIV and hepatitis C after being given contaminated blood products.

Clearing out photos, here are some TV/video things I almost forgot I did. Brexit debate for The Telegraph in 2016 with Patel, Johnson, Kendall and Salmond. General election 2017 for ITV. The Wright Stuff (C5) and Bargain Hunt with @bbcnickrobinson. ❤️ https://t.co/0GWVgNreZJ

Coincidentally I had a routine mammogram at 11.16am and I am so glad it was a woman. Unless you’ve had one, you probably don’t know. It’s not like a cervical smear but it’s still very intimate. The radiologist has to hold your breast and keep repositioning you. #keepitfemale
