The sister of Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, has filed a lawsuit alleging that he regularly sexually abused her during their childhood. Ann Altman, 30, claimed the abuse, which allegedly included rape, occurred between 1997 and 2006, starting when she was three and Sam Altman was 12. In papers filed on Monday in a district court in Missouri, where the siblings grew up, Ms Altman claimed her brother “groomed and manipulated” her to perform sex acts on her.

At least one gunman fired shots at the American embassy in Beirut early on Wednesday, drawing retaliation from Lebanese soldiers and security guards. The Lebanese army said the incident involved at least one attacker, a Syrian national, who was injured in the exchange of fire. A member of the embassy’s security team was said to have been wounded, while a search was under way to find any other suspects.

Duolingo has removed references to gay people on the Russian version of its language learning app after threats from the state censor. Roskomnadzor, the Russian media watchdog, launched an investigation into the US company this year after complaints from conservative activists. Phrases used during training exercises including “Ben and Peter love each other” and “Clara met her wife, Maria, at a lesbian bar” were said to contravene Russia’s “LGBT propaganda” law.

Four in ten patients who return a positive bowel cancer test are not being followed up due to a lack of capacity in the NHS to investigate, a surgeon has warned. Professor Farhat Din told MSPs she was seeing patients with the disease who had been “falsely reassured” because they had received no follow-up care after sending off their stool samples.
