In the early hours of Sunday morning after leaving The Hill, a University of Kentucky student was walking behind the S. Limestone Chipotle to head home when five men jumped him, according to a police report. This assault happened right off campus just a day after UK increased safety measures and police patrol due to previous student safety concerns.

Gunfire erupted on Sunday near Raising Cane’s, prompting UK campus alerts and sending students fleeing. Shots were fired around 1 a.m. on Nov. 3 on the corner of Winslow and S. Upper Street. UK sent out alerts to inform students of the shooting, but the location details were left out of the first alert sent. The alert read, “URGENT: Shots fired in [location] AVOID THE AREA.”Six minutes later, an alert was sent clarifying the location of the previous alert.
