When Donta Green was playing football for Westinghouse High School in the early 2000s, college was just a dream for him. “I pretty much only went to school to play football. I wasn’t the best student,” he said. “But the IUP coaches gave me a shot.”good alumsSome 20 years later, not only is Green a proud graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he has returned to his Pittsburgh roots and is currently head coach of Westinghouse’s football team.

Shelter Soulmates is a monthly column featuring adoptable animals from shelters and 501(c)(3) rescues. All animals were available at the time of publication. DobiDobi is a 3-year-old, 22-pound French bulldog who sadly has been bounced around quite a bit in his short life. He is deaf, but you would never know it. Dobi is very in tune with his person and completely crate-trained and housebroken. He will bark at the door to go outside in a fenced-in yard.

The second annual Seneca Valley Best Buddies walk held May 31 in North Boundary Park in Cranberry brought with it several developments. This year, the local event for international nonprofit organization Best Buddies — which aims to create friendship, development and employment opportunities for those for people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities — brought in close to 300 participants to the community walk in a total that surpassed last year’s 250.
