    A raccoon attacked a man in a Market Basket parking lot in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Tuesday, officials say. Portsmouth Police received a report from a third party that a young male was attacked by a raccoon in the vicinity of Market Basket, Sergeant Jordan Wells told Boston.com. At the scene, the raccoon and the alleged victim were not present when police arrived. However, roughly an hour later, police said they got a call from the man, who was receiving medical care.

    Massachusetts is the ninth best state in the country, according to a new ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Launched in 2017, the Best States rankings look at eight categories — health care, education, natural environment, opportunity, economy, crime and corrections, infrastructure, and fiscal stability — to assess the 50 states. Education was the highest-weighted category in this year’s rankings based on survey results about the issues that Americans care about most.

    The body of the 4-year-old boy who was swept away by the Merrimack River was recovered on Friday, officials say. At 9 a.m., an off-duty lieutenant with the Massachusetts State Police who was on the river in his personal boat found what appeared to be a body in the water near the Trull Brook Golf Course in Tewksbury, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
