From one of the first film clips they watched, the Pitt men’s basketball coaching staff was interested in Alabama native Barry Dunning Jr. His athleticism jumped off the screen early. He has a great ability to find his shooting spots. There’s high potential on the defensive end, too. He was checking all the boxes coach Jeff Capel wants for his 2025-26 squad. The only potential red flag was the fact Pitt would be Dunning’s fourth school in four years.

May 24—Shaler boys volleyball has been a staple in a WPIAL championship game lately, winning the Class 3A final over North Allegheny the past two seasons. The Titans — as a program — know what it takes to become champions, but winning on Saturday in the 2A finals would be a first for multiple reasons. Despite winning a championship the past two years, not a single player on the roster played in either of those games.

For the past couple of seasons, North Allegheny volleyball has had to hunt. Shaler was the obvious No. 1 and continued to be a thorn in the Tigers’ side, losing to the dominant team in the Class 3A WPIAL championship in 2023 and 2024. Shaler moved to 2A this season, and North Allegheny is no longer the hunter. The Tigers are officially the hunted. North Allegheny coach Dan Long knew his squad was ready. A majority of the roster was in those previous championship games, they just fell short.
