The Munsiff Magistrate Court at Attappady is facing a challenge with no full-time prosecutor appointed even 15 months after the court’s inauguration. A prosecutor from the Mannarkkad Munsiff Magistrate Court temporarily covers the Attappady court two days a week as a stop-gap measure. The government has reserved the Attappady prosecutor’s post for a person with disabilities. However, the attempts of the district administration to find a suitable candidate have not succeeded yet.

The news of an HIV outbreak among injecting drug users (IDUs) at Valanchery in Malappuram district had spread like wildfire, sparking fears of stigma and rejection. As many as 10 persons were found infected in a routine screening held in the district.

The Additional District and Sessions Court-I, Manjeri, in Malappuram distroct of Kerala on Thursday convicted three persons in the murder of Shaba Sharif, a 60-year-old traditional healer from Rajiv Nagar, Mysuru. Judge Thushar M. delivered a guilty verdict against Shaibin Ashraf, 37, and his accomplices Shihabudheen P., 36, and Nishad Naduthodika, 32, for homicide not amounting to murder, conspiracy and destruction of evidence. The sentencing is scheduled for Saturday (March 22).

The freight revenue of the Palakkad Railway Division witnessed 36.5% increase in 2024-25. The freight loading too saw a tremendous surge in the current fiscal, reinforcing the division’s critical role in transporting essential goods across north Kerala, Dakshina Kannada and Tamil Nadu. Until March 18 in the current fiscal, the division generated ₹583.37 crore in revenue from handling 6.41 million tonnes of freight.
