The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Idris Sakaina, by gunmen. The Miyyeti Allah chieftain was reportedly shot at about 10 pm on Saturday in front of his residence in the Oke Ose area of Ilorin, the state capital. The police spokesperson in the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said that investigations had commenced on the incident.

A 200-level male student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has reportedly committed suicide over economic hardship. The deceased, whose identity was yet-to-be confirmed, was from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS). It was also gathered that the student was on the cumulative aggregate of 4.5 academic standing at the Department of Mass Communication before his unfortunate death.

A five-year-old boy on Monday set a duplex building on fire while playing with match sticks in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. The incident happened at Abiodun Adebiyi close, off Yidi Road, Irewole area Ilorin in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state. One of the rooms in the duplex was completely burnt and property destroyed before men of the state fire service arrived at the scene to rescue the building from destruction.

Goods estimated at several millions of Naira were on Friday night destroyed in a fire outbreak that occurred at Olusola Saraki Market, Ita-Amo area in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. According to the state Fire Service, items destroyed in the fire incident included clothing materials, provisions, mineral drinks and meat. The Fire Service, in a statement, said that seven shops were destroyed out of the 269 shops in the market.

Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court has fixed December 3, 2024, for the commencement of the trial of the immediate past governor of Kwara Abdulfatah Ahmed over a 15-count charge bordering on the alleged diversion of N3 billion public fund. The former governor, who was re-arraigned from the Federal High Court, Ilorin, is being charged with diverting Universal Basic Education (UBEC) funds for other purposes.

Kidnappers have killed the Commander of a vigilante group, Lukman Balogun, during a rescue operation in the Igbaja community of the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. Following the development, aggrieved youths in the community on Tuesday took to the streets to protest the killing. They described the deceased as a thorn in the flesh of the bandits terrorising the community. Balogun was until his death on Monday evening the Jagun of Igbajaland.
