STERLING, Ill. (KWQC) - The Sterling community is asking questions after a registered sex offender was arrested for living near a park. 29-year-old James Deates was changed for living within 500 feet of a public playground, which is strictly prohibited for people on the sex offender registry. He became a registered sex offender in 2015, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registration list. The charge leaves parents and neighbors stunned.
