Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree has unveiled the Strong Borders Act, promising to strengthen Canada’s borders against organized crime. Department officials providing information on a not-for-attribution basis say Bill C-2 has three main themes - fighting organized crime and fentanyl, securing the border and offering more tools to fight financial crime. The legislation also proposes changes to what law enforcement can do without a warrant.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s faith as a practicing Catholic “played into his decision” to attend the new Pope’s inaugural mass, but the weekend trip is also a good opportunity to meet with other world leaders present, a senior government source told CTV News. Carney is now in Rome, and is expected to have an audience with Pope Leo XIV following that mass.

With fears that the conflict between India and Pakistan will turn into a full-scale war, a Canadian couple from the two countries is on edge. Harman Singh and Sadaf Iqbal, who live in Brampton, Ont., with their three children, say they’ve been calling their families in India and Pakistan. This comes after fighting between the two nuclear-armed countries intensified, following the mass killing of 26 tourists, mostly Indian, in Indian-controlled Kashmir last April, The Associated Press reported.
