Published 1:27 pm Thursday, November 21, 2024 STANFORD – With only two votes determining the District 4 School Board race, a recanvass of the results was requested following the Nov. 5 general election. The recanvass of all vote totals for that race, requested by incumbent Gloria Sneed, was conducted on Thurs., Nov. 14 at the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office. The results remained the same with Lisa Gillem beating Sneed with 774 votes to 772.

Published 12:59 pm Wednesday, November 20, 2024 STANFORD – A man who shot and killed his son and then called 911 to report it has been indicted by a Lincoln County grand jury. Jack R. McNew, 72, of U.S. 27 south in Stanford, was indicted by a grand jury on one one count of murder and one count of first-degree burglary. McNew was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) on those charges on Sept. 9 after he shot his son, Jackie McNew, several times with a 9mm handgun.

Published 12:17 pm Wednesday, October 30, 2024 Former Lincoln County Circuit Clerk Angelia Doolin has returned to the seat after being appointed to fill the vacancy left behind by Dwight Hopkins. Hopkins was removed from the seat by the Kentucky Supreme Court on Sept. 26. He was first elected to the seat in Nov. 2022 and served for a few months before the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) received several complaints from employees against Hopkins in March 2023.

It’s called the Lincoln County Veterans Suicide Prevention Coalition and together they are working to connect veterans to the resources and help they need – whenever they need it.

Published 3:50 pm Monday, October 21, 2024 A man who stole his sister’s truck, ran over her legs and led law enforcement on a pursuit into a neighboring county has been indicted by a Lincoln County grand jury. Sherrill “Chemo” Padgett, 58, of Waynesburg, was arrested on Aug. 17 by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies on several charges. He was originally charged with attempted murder.

Laptops and tablets were purchased using $3,200 of the opioid abatement funds given to the City of Stanford. Mayor Dalton Miller delivered the laptops Oct. 11 to the Volunteers of America Mid-States’ (VOA) Recovery Community Center during the center’s open house event.

COFD is one of 100 fire departments nationwide to receive the grant through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program.
