For the first time since 1968, the New York Yankees have not scored a run in three consecutive games. Not exactly what you’d expect from a team colloquially nicknamed “The Bronx Bombers.”It’s been a really rough go. The Yankees have been outscored 13-5 in their last six games. Nobody in the lineup is hitting now except for the recently-returned Giancarlo Stanton, and a two-game sample size means nothing. Most notably, team captain and reigning MVP Aaron Judge is no longer dancing with batting .400.

The Boston Red Sox swept the New York Yankees over the weekend, only to make a move one would expect from the opposite result. Mere hours after Boston’s 2-0 win over the Yankees on Sunday, star third baseman/first baseman/DH/whatever management needs from him a given week Rafael Devers was traded to the San Francisco Giants. The Red Sox got pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison in return, plus prospects Jose Bello and James Tibbs III. The timing of the deal? Zero sense.

Everyone knew the New York Yankees were going to lose some games this year. Even the best go through bad stretches, it’s baseball. It happens. What no one could have expected, however, was the Yankees being swept by the Red Sox at Fenway Park over the weekend, thus losing five of the first six games of a 13-game season series. This was also the exact opposite of the previous weekend, when Boston outscored the Yankees 27-23.

A clutch ninth inning home run from Aaron Judge and a tight extra innings loss later, the New York Yankees need to channel some anger headed into Saturday night’s game. They’ll once again face Hunter Dobbins, the Red Sox rookie who would apparently retire if the Yankees were the only team offering him a deal. Now add the controversy over his father’s alleged time in the Yankees farm system, of which there is no record.

The New York Yankees lost two of three to the Red Sox last weekend, and answered with a subsequent three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals. The Bronx Bombers earned it too, having eked out a tight 1-0 victory to complete the sweep Wednesday. It’s now out of the frying pan and into the fire, on the Yankees’ end. They get the Red Sox again this weekend, and the opening pitching matchup isn’t exactly ideal.

Juan Soto isn't *producing* much, but his hot streak is exactly what the Mets need from him https://t.co/SSoiVjBBJH

I’ll keep this receipt for the next “Where Colin Was Wrong”

The Celtics should have to give 5/6 of their championships back. Humiliating L.

No disrespect but correction @RealMichaelKay. Jackson Merrill signed his extension in April 2025. Even took a shot at Juan Soto during his press conference announcing it
