    Niger State government has banned the collection of PTA charges in all public primary and secondary schools across the state. Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago who announced the ban during a tour to Sarkin Pawa, Munya LGA of the state, said the move was to encourage enrolment and reduce the rate of out of school children in the state.

    Bandits on Wednesday abducted over 50 persons at Wanke and Gurusu villages of Gusau and Gummi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. Locals said the victims were abducted in Wanke and environs while working on their farms; and three others, along the Anka-Gurusu road in Anka Local Government Area of the state. A resident of Kwalfada, a village neighbouring Wanke, said the kidnapped victims were abducted from their respective farms.

    Divers, on Thursday, recovered eight more bodies from the river where a passenger boat conveying Mawlid Celebrants capsized at Gbajibo, Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. The recovery brings the total number of deaths to 24, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency. Daily Trust had reported how a boat which took off from Mundi community capsized a short distance to the victims' destination.

    Residents blame speed, bad road Forty-eight people have lost their lives as a result of a petrol tanker explosion that occurred along Bida-Agaie-Lapai- Road in Niger State. Alhaji Abdullah- Baba-Arah, Director-General, Niger Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), disclosed this in a statement in Minna on Sunday. He said the agency received a report of a deadly tanker explosion that occurred on Sunday at about 12:30 am along Bida-Agaie-Lapai highway.
