    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Over 160 years ago, the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation abolished slavery in the United States. Every year, on June 19th, we celebrate Juneteenth to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. People here in Siouxland gathered together on Thursday to celebrate freedom. Music could be heard throughout the Sioux City Public Museum on Thursday during Sioux City’s NAACP Juneteenth celebration.

    HINTON, Iowa (KTIV) - Dozens of Hinton residents filled city hall to voice their thoughts about the potential construction on a major roadway. On Tuesday, June 17, the Iowa Department of Transportation held a public hearing to receive input on a proposed project on U.S. Highway 75 in Hinton, Iowa. The project would reconstruct about .7 miles of Highway 75 to create a divided four-lane section throughout all of Hinton, instead of the division ending at the north and south sides of town.

    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A group of Siouxland athletes are preparing for a trip to the baseball hall of fame. Baseball players with the Miracle League of Sioux City are gearing up for their trip to Cooperstown, New York, next week. There, they’ll play in the ‘Casey’s Clubhouse Hall of Fame Tournament and Combine.’ They will compete against six other organizations from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts and New York. That tournament is on Doubleday Field, where Babe Ruth once played.

    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - One group of bell-ringing teenagers are making their way across the country on tour and made a stop in Siouxland Monday night. On Monday, June 9, the Wesley Bell Ringers from Salt Lake City performed at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. 60 years ago, the founder of the bell ringers, Edwin Duncan, brought together nine young members in his church to create a bell choir.

    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The hours that Sioux City residents can light fireworks on July 3rd and 4th are changing. That follows the signing of a bill in Iowa that prevents cities and counties from banning fireworks on those days. Governor Kim Reynolds signed that bill into law on May 19th. It says cities and counties can’t ban fireworks on July 3rd, July 4th or December 31st. The new law also says the hours cities allow fireworks must align with the hours outlined in the new state law.
