SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - On Friday, Briar Cliff University took time to congratulate their women’s basketball team on a great season, which culminated in a trip to the semi-finals of the NAIA national tournament. They recognized all the team had accomplished throughout their season, and the team received their semi-final NAIA awards. Coach Brian Ortmeier shared how proud he was of his players throughout the season, and how their mindset ‘to never give up’ allowed them to make it that far.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Every year, alumni and community supporters of a local school come together to raise money, and Thursday was their big event. Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools held its annual fundraising auction Thursday night in the O’Gorman Fieldhouse gym. This year’s theme was ‘Cowboy Up,’ where everyone was dressed in western attire, including KTIV’s RJ Breen, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - On Tuesday night, local police held a meeting to bridge the gap between the department and the people they serve and protect. The Sioux City Police Department held a town hall meeting at the Sioux City Public Museum. The department tries to hold a town hall every year to make sure they continue to talk one-on-one with members of the community. There, officials shared crime statistics. Those numbers showed that they saw a drop in violent crime and property crime in 2024.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - On Monday night, 20 middle schoolers from around the area competed at the region’s Civics Bee. All of the students went through the first two rounds, where they had to answer multiple choice civics questions. “I actually think round one was the hardest because some of the, like I studied, but some of the questions I was like, ‘oh gosh guessing is the best answer on this’,” said Brantlee Smith, 3rd place winner of the Civics Bee.

UNION COUNTY, S.D. (KTIV) - We now know when the murder trial of Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales will begin. Due to an emergency affecting his defense attorney, Castellanos-Rosales’s trial was delayed on the same day jury selection was set to begin back in March. At a hearing on Thursday, April 3, the judge set jury selection to begin June 12. That’s expected to take two days. The trial itself is expected to begin on June 16 and continue until June 27.
