My housemate and partner in parenting, Mandy, is all about theming our evenings. To her, why endure yet another bland night at home or among the same dull group of friends when we could instead endure yet another bland night at home or among the same dull group of friends … except with a gimmick? Joking aside, I enjoy Mandy’s ability to spice up whatever we’re doing — usually not much of anything — with a bit of creative seasoning.

I had to run to the mall on my lunch break today, and because time is also pressing during the workweek, that meant I dined in the food court. We’re fortunate here in Tupelo that our local mall remains healthy, its main stretch and handful of short wings still filled with stores, and most of its anchors still in place.

According to the Associated Press story featured on the front of this week's Culture section, water bottles are en vogue. "Whether you're a tech enthusiast, fashion trendsetter, hiker, commuter or just an eco-conscious consumer, there's a bottle out there for you," author Kim Cook writes. "There are bottles that sterilize themselves. Bottles that remind you when to drink. Bottles designed for sustainability. And bottles transformed by a paintbox of colors and imagery into mini artworks.

I’m no economist, but from what I understand, if the recently implemented tariffs on just about every country in the world … well, except Russia … remain in place, food costs are going to go up. Possibly by a lot.

If anyone had been standing just beyond the closed bathroom door — and there are a lot of snoops and perverts roaming the world, so there may very well have been — they likely would have thought that I was gearing up to do something excruciatingly painful, like sawing off my right arm with a butter knife. They also would probably assume I’m the world’s biggest Leonardo DiCaprio fan. “You can do this, Adam. You can do this,” I chanted again and again, as if the repetition would somehow make it true.
