    The £3.2 million project funded by the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) and the Mayor’s Challenge fund, will reinstate Milltown Street Bridge which was destroyed in 2015 by the Boxing Day floods. The replacement bridge has been altered to a single span design without any in-river supports. It will also sit higher above the river than the original. The new design will simplify the construction process, improve flood resilience, and reduce the risk of future damage.

    Essential track replacement work between Piccadilly station and Piccadilly Gardens takes place between Tuesday, 3rd June and Sunday, 10th August. Normal tram services resume on Monday, 11th August. No tram services will run via Piccadilly Gardens during that period, as work to replace older tracks and keep the network safe, reliable and accessible is carried out. There are approximately 300 tram movements through this section of track in each direction every day.

    Ramsbottom has become a key location in a police investigation after an incident yesterday, in which a van driver was assaulted and had his vehicle stolen by a masked gang. The incident took place around 5.20pm at a layby on Haslingden Road (A682) in Rawtenstall, where a group of men wearing balaclavas – one armed with a wrench-type weapon – pulled the victim from his van before fleeing in the vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat. Shortly after the robbery, both vehicles were discovered in Ramsbottom.

    Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision. A vehicle left the carriageway on Bury and Bolton Road and crashed into a petrol station at around 12:30pm yesterday. The driver, an 80-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and died this morning (Thursday). The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now investigating and is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage from the area before the crash to come forward.

    The man who died after being struck by a vehicle has been named as 19-year-old Brandon Porter Kershaw. He was found with serious injuries on Porritt Street shortly after 8pm yesterday evening. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but Brandon died as a result of his injuries. In a statement released today, Brandon’s family paid a heartfelt tribute:“We are all truly shocked and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Brandon.
