A warrant took place at a business on Reed Hill at around 7:22am this morning (Monday 14 April 2025). In total, 510 cannabis plants were discovered, worth up to £350,000. Approximately 7kg of dried herbal cannabis was also recovered from the scene, valued at a street-value of £70,000. A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity without authority. He is in police custody.

Creating the new Starbucks branch would involve the partial demolition of a unit and external works to accommodate a drive thru lane. The western part of the building would be demolished, leaving a unit of 185 square metres, which includes a drive-thru pod projecting on the western side. There are currently 103 parking spaces on site, shared with Lidl. The new use would mean this would be reduced to 99 spaces.

Crews were called to Potato Wharf, in the Castlefield neighbourhood of the city centre, at 11:45am on Monday (April 7). The fire service was contacted by charity the RSCPA, whose staff were attempting to rescue the goose. The hour-long operation used five fire vehicles, a large net, 9m ladder, and even required a cordon. In the end, the feathered friend managed to free itself from the basin and fly off of its own accord.

Bury Council said that over the next five years, 44 houses and flats will be used at new schemes being delivered on former council-owned sites. A direct let and local lettings policy will be devised for each project, meaning that a select number of homes within each development will be ring-fencedfor care leavers. When a care leaver moves on the property will be reallocated, which the council said would forever safeguard the homes for this use.
