THERE’S nothing quite like a refreshing cold drink to cool you down in the summer heat. You’ll be sure to find one in two pubs in Tameside, which will be offering a range of craft ciders during a 10-day festival. The Ash Tree in Ashton-under-Lyne and The Society Rooms in Stalybridge will have traditional apple ciders, perries and flavoured ciders on tap for the festival – which begins on Friday (June 27) and runs until Sunday, July 6.

TAMESIDE residents are being encouraged to help prevent the spread of measles as the summer holidays loom large. It comes as recent data shows a rise in measles across Greater Manchester. The borough’s Public Health team are reminding families to check their MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccinations are up to date. This is particularly the case before travelling abroad, as measles outbreaks are also being seen overseas.

STAFF and residents at a care home in Ashton-under-Lyne have met with their local MP and Deputy Prime Minister. They shared their experiences and talked about what life is like at Daisy Nook House with Angela Rayner. During the recent visit, the Labour MP – who is also the Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary – had a guided tour of the 40-bed residential and dementia care home.

A HYDE town centre shop has been forced to close down after repeatedly selling illegal tobacco. H Local Store on Market Street had been found to be selling illicit cigarettes, hand-rolling tobacco and e-cigarettes on numerous occasions. Tameside Council says its Trading Standards team has seized 26,860 illegal cigarettes, 7.45kg of illegal hand-rolling tobacco and 284 illegal e-cigarettes from the shop since 2020.

FAMILIES are being invited to enjoy a day making memories with a wide range of fun-filled activities. The 4C Community Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne will soon be holding its annual Community Fun Day. It takes place at the centre on Taunton Road on Saturday, July 5, from 1pm to 5pm. There will be game stalls outside, free bouncy castles for the children, a DJ and performers to keep everyone entertained. That’s not all, there will be a BBQ to feast on and plenty of local business stalls to browse too.
