Depending on your profession, a good every day carry (EDC) Knife might be a discrete folder that hides in the bottom of your pocket. Others might require a medium-sized fixed blade that comfortably rides on the hip and has the backbone to handle more heavy-duty tasks. I typically give my garage a good cleaning every few months. Every time I do, I pick up some of my old antlers, sheds, and dead heads. I’ll reminisce on some of my favorite hunts or make false promises to myself about new spots. Then, I put them back in the corner until the next cleaning, where they go on collecting dust. This is especially true for hunters who need a rugged hunting knife but can’t justify spending a few hundred bucks for something they might use a couple of times per year.

Personally, that gives me more confidence in a spot. Often, these places require more walking, which tends to weed out some of the competition. I’m also drawn to places where I know I have room to roam, and I almost always start e-scouting with the biggest tracts I can find.
