Learners were able to get more information to help them decide about their futures during a big career expo that was held at Carleton Jones High School recently. According to an organiser, Vicky Saunders-Flaherty, the expo was part of the Rocking Future expos. It did not only inform learners, but also launched the Success Starters programme at the school, which aims to spotlight extraordinary students who exemplify passion and dedication.

Carletonville SAPS are warning residents to exercise extra caution while using ATMs in and around town. This comes after several residents have become targets. Police reports have indicated that the suspects, who loiter around the area, pretended to be “helpful” security guards, but then robbed them of their cash and valuables. The Absa ATM in Annan Road and the Standard Bank ATM at the Shell filling station are only some of the trouble spots.

A senseless murder took place in the Oberholzer CBD over the past weekend. As far as could be determined, the victim (38) and suspect (42) were relaxing together in town on May 3. An argument erupted between the two men, who were apparently long-term friends, after it became known that the victim had allegedly started a relationship with the suspect’s girlfriend. The suspect pulled out his firearm and shot the victim six times. He died at the scene.

Residents of the higher area of Fochville have had to make do with almost no water for several weeks. “We are in our fourth week. This is inhumane and illegal,” a resident of this area complained on Tuesday. “Please, we need water in our taps, we cannot continue living like this. Please, we need legal help. Merafong is not helping us,” a resident pleaded.
