    DALLAS, Texas - UTEP track and field’s Marissa Simpson was named the 2025 Conference USA Women’s Track Athlete of the Year as announced by league officials on Friday. The league’s head coaches vote on the awards and consider the student-athletes’ performances from both the 2025 indoor and outdoor seasons. It’s Simpson’s second CUSA Women’s Track Athlete of the Year honor after taking the award home in 2023.

    EL PASO, Texas - El Paso's Aaron Jones is back home in the Sun City doing what he loves, giving back to the El Paso community. He and his brother Alvin will host a series of free sports camps this weekend. This year the Minnesota Vikings running back is teaming up with one of his former UTEP teammates, Will Hernandez. Jones and his A&A All the Way foundation are partnering with the Mijo Things foundation, a charity group founded by NFL offensive lineman Hernandez.

    EL PASO, Texas - UTEP Track and Field Head Coach Mika Laaksonen, who has led the program for 15 years, announced his retirement on Thursday. Laaksonen has been a member of the Miner staff for 28 years, serving as an assistant coach from 1997-2011 prior to taking over the reins of the team. Laaksonen was also a two-time NCAA champion thrower for the Miners in the early ‘90s. His retirement marks the end of a distinguished three-decade run at UTEP.

    EL PASO, Texas - One of the best college softball players in the country has found a new home. Hanks graduate Desirae Spearman announced via X Wednesday that she's transferring to Texas Tech. Spearman spent her first two seasons at New Mexico State. She was the Conference USA Player of the Year following her freshman season. Spearman had a phenomenal sophomore season with the Aggies. She hit 20 home runs, 47 RBIs, and had a school-record .430 batting average.

    EL PASO, Texas - The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony is June 24th. A member of the Class of 2025 is hockey player and head coach, Cory Herman. Herman will make history as he'll be the first hockey player to ever be inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. Herman is the face of youth and professional hockey in the Sun City. He's coached the El Paso Rhinos to more than 700 wins, 2 national titles and 4 Thorne Cup titles.
