KVIA-TV (El Paso, TX)

KVIA-TV has a significant legacy, having been the ABC network affiliate for over 60 years in El Paso, Texas, as well as in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Juarez, Mexico. Originally known as KILT-TV 13, the station began broadcasting on September 1, 1956, from a location in south central El Paso. It was co-owned by the influential Gordon McLendon, who also owned KILT-AM 920 radio. McLendon was a pioneer in radio programming, known for creating the original Top 40 format and highlighting the role of the radio disc jockey. In March 1957, after a brief period of ownership, KILT was sold by the McClendon Investment Corporation to Joseph Harris and Norman Alexander. The station was later renamed KELP-TV, and in January 1966, it was acquired by John B. Walton Jr.
