ST. ALBANS CITY – Rain and clouds cleared up Saturday just in time for people to fill downtown St. Albans’ Kingman Street for the annual music festival. For the fourth year in a row, right at 5 p.m. when the crowds began wandering through the downtown block, face painters, caricature artists and food trucks were prepared to greet them. For Kingman Street resident Erik Stumpf, he just had to go right outside.

ENOSBURG FALLS – This summer, Enosburg’s electric utility will be switching to a new billing software for customers. On June 15, the switchover from the current Invoice Cloud software to National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) will be completed, Village Manager John Dasaro said. The move affects where consumers in the electricity department’s 70 square mile area – including Enosburgh, Sheldon, Bakersfield, Berkshire, Fairfield and Franklin – pay their bills.

FAIRFAX – The Fairfax Community Center once again finds itself pointing to the sky with its white washed steeple back on top. The steeple was returned to the top of the old-church-turned-community-space Wednesday, April 30 by cranes and heavy equipment from Huntington-based Vermont Heavy Timber who did the restoration work. Parks and Recreation director Danielle Rothy said with the steeple back on, the years-long construction took a big step forward.

FRANKLIN COUNTY – Of the eight Franklin County farm workers detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in April, three have been deported to Mexico. The remaining five are detained at immigration centers, according to Migrant Justice, a nonprofit advocacy group. Border Patrol detained eight dairy farmworkers April 21 at Pleasant Valley Farms in Berkshire. The arrests were not part of a pre-planned targeted raid, according to reporting by Seven Days.

FAIRFAX – Get up early this weekend and take an interactive walk in one of Fairfax’s newest parks guided by the town’s newest master naturalists. Saturday, May 10 starts bright and early at 8 a.m. for a “Discover Garland Park” spring birdwalking hike. Garland Park has a somewhat hidden parking lot, at the intersection of Shepardson Hollow and Chaffee Road.
