Investigation into D.C. midair plane crash MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota leaders are reacting and offering their condolences after a mid-air collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and a passenger jet near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. Wednesday evening. The plane, American Eagle Flight No. 5242, was a regional jetliner carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. There were three soldiers aboard the helicopter, a Defense Department official told CBS News.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says it will challenge a ruling that deemed a south Minneapolis man, who allegedly shot his neighbor in the neck following months of harassment, incompetent to stand trial. John Sawchak faces second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, stalking and harassment charges. His neighbor, Davis Moturi, had made at least 19 police reports against Sawchak for a range of incidents including vandalism and threats of physical assault.

At least 10 dead in Los Angeles wildfires, and more headlines ATLANTA — Four people were injured on Friday morning after an engine issue forced emergency evacuations on a Delta plane bound for Minneapolis. According to a statement from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the aircraft aborted takeoff around 9:10 a.m. Passengers then used the emergency slides to deplane and were taken to a nearby concourse. During the incident, four people suffered minor injuries.
