The highly-anticipated full reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 has brought with it a myriad of emotions. While most remain very excited about the new system—which is arriving in only a matter of weeks—others have been struck with ultimate sticker shock at the surprising price tags of system’s games, in particular. Initial reactions point to “corporate greed” as the ‘obvious’ answer. But, perhaps the devil is in the details. In other words, things be expensive these days.

Saber Interactive has occupied an opulent position in the driving-sim subgenre for several years, thanks to its sterling work with MudRunner and SnowRunner. Meanwhile, the 2024 spin-off, Expeditions, continues to have a mixed reputation. Yet, that hasn’t stopped the team from forging ahead with RoadCraft—yet another heavy machinery project infused with the MudRunner DNA. Interestingly, Saber has opted to sever this entry from the Runner family name.

In some ways, it seems as if it was just yesterday and yet also forever ago that Nintendo introduced the world to a proper hybrid system. The original Nintendo Switch rocked the gaming community to its core when it was first revealed in October 2016, with its docking capabilities and sleek, portable-focused design that blurred the lines between home console and handheld. Now, today, January 16, 2025, the world gets to meet its successor—the Nintendo Switch 2.

In recent times, it seems that each year of releases brings a handful of titles that launch as duds. Sometimes, they’re flat-out broken, and other times, they’re simply far from the vision that was initially promised. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was not exactly one such title, but in the four years since its release, Asobo has carved it out to be far more complex and improved than its launch build.

Somehow, Asobo has done it again. For the last four years and counting, it would seem that the team had already, to an arguable degree, achieved what it had set out to accomplish with the revamping of the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise. But, after it was formally revealed last year that there would be an entirely new simulator, it left the flight sim community in a state of minor havoc. “This was supposed to be a 10-year project.” “Why do we need an all-new simulator?

The PS5 and Xbox Series have not gotten a price cut this gen—their prices have gone up in some regions. Sony released a $700 digital-only console less than a year ago. Most big games today start at $70, and are laden with DLC/micro transactions and Season Passes. "But Nintendo!"

Since this is getting spread, fine, let's talk about. Yep, that is me. Reading comprehension can be very difficult, and now that it's posted 5 years later, nobody remembers the context. Activision was being blasted for bumping their games to $70. Sony then did the same thing,

Hate to see the shed is still happening. Now @pcinvasion is officially no more. Still miss the days of writing up stuff with the staff there.

Really good break down by NL's Alex. Switch 2 offers a lot for the money, Mario Kart World's price aside. Especially in a world where the $700 PS5 Pro is a thing, and I can't imagine a PS6 being that much cheaper. Alas, we'll get there when we get there.

Opinion: The Switch 2 Is A Powerhouse For The Price. https://t.co/lOaqyMFk1Y
