    A rally race is set to bring restrictions to two local areas. Friday, April 25 will see the Speyside Stages Rally get under way which will see access rights temporarily removed from parts of Aultmore Forest and Whiteash Forest. The restrictions run from 12.01am on Friday to 11.59pm on Saturday. Anzac Day commemorations mean the B9104 at Bogmoor, near Spey Bay is shut on Friday from 10.55am for half an hour. A diversion will be in place via the B9104, U10E, U8E and C16E.

    Three was indeed a lucky number for a village hall committee when welcomed a number of important donations from the local community. Volunteers at Portgordon Village Hall were delighted when they received donations of a battery powered lawnmower and strimmer as well as a replacement public access defibrillator. Behind the generosity was the Portgordon Fireworks Committee. The group’s chairman, Kenny Gunn, said: “We were delighted to be able to make these donations to Portgordon Village Hall.

    There was a continued upward trend in Moray benefits claims for the month of March, new year-on-year figures have revealed. Across all age groups in the region, there was a rise of 130 - or 10 per cent - compared to last year, bringing the overall total of 1445. Among those aged 18-24, some 20 claimants were added to make a new figure of 250, representing a nine per cent rise. There was also a nine per cent hike in the numbers for the over-50s age group, up from 350 to 380.

    Police are hailing the success of an ongoing campaign aiming to save lives on the country’s roads. Traffic police officers in the north-east have been supporting the National Fatal 5 campaign which is running throughout April. The campaign highlights the dangers of the five leading factors that contribute to road traffic fatalities. These are speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, distractions such as mobile phones, drink/drug driving and careless driving.

    The memory of her beloved grandad has inspired a woman to fundraise for a life-saving charity. Lily-Mae Robertson, who lives in Macduff but originally hails from Buckie, is set to get her walking shoes on as part of the RNLI’s Mile a Day in May challenge. She has been greatly inspired by her late grandad, Adam Robertson, who sadly passed away in 2020 just two days before his 70th birthday.
