There were rises across the board in benefits claims, new year-on-year figures have revealed. The statistics from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) show that there have been increases in of up to 16 per cent across the Moray Council area for those claiming benefits. Across all age group, the figures rose by 195 - 16 per cent - to 1395. Among those in the 18-24 age group, the hike was 12 per cent - up from 215 to 240.

Student achievements took centre stage when a high school celebrated their annual prizegiving. There was pride aplenty when students, staff and parents/carers came together to mark a year of hard work, success and attainment at Milne’s High School. It was an event never to forget for Erin Shand when she was presented with the Sir Ashley Mackintosh Medal as Dux of the school. Guest speaker for the evening was former student Izzy Tiddy, who themselves won the Dux medal in 2014.

A car dealership has expanded its reach with the acquisition of a new showroom. Buckie businessman Charles Milne, who is Group Managing Director of Regency with branches in the town and Elgin, has unveiled the purchase of the Arnold Clark Linkwood Elgin dealership. At present the showroom sells a range of Renault and Dacia vehicles. The site will undergo a full refurbishment and be rebranded under the Regency name, housing the exciting and fast-growing MG brand.

It was time for achievement in and out of the classroom to stand tall when a secondary school held its annual prizegiving. Senior students from Buckie Community High School (BCHS) were honoured at a special ceremony in Highfield Hall looking back on the outstanding achievements of the school year soon to draw to a close. It was an evening to remember for Luke Coull and Joe Sutherland who respectively won the S5 and S6 Dux Medals and Joe Mackay Awards.

A royal honour is being hailed as recognition for everyone involved in an advocacy project. The recent King’s birthday honours list held something of a surprise for Keith woman Polly Patrick, Advocacy Services Manager for Advocacy Northeast Ltd (ANE), who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her work helping people who require independent advocacy across the north-east.
