The measure was narrowly rejected.

NORTH CHATHAM -- An intense blaze gutted a house at 665 Fox Hill Rd. Thursday evening. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The first fire crews were summoned at about 9 p.m. and found the building well involved with flames; they called for a second alarm assignment, bringing in additional crews from surrounding towns. Firefighters mounted an exterior attack and eventually contained the blaze, but not before it caused heavy damage to the structure.

Outer Cape Health Services’ Harwich Port offices. ALAN POLLOCK PHOTO HARWICH PORT – Lounging on the patio overlooking Pleasant Bay, vacationers at the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club would be forgiven for not thinking about the Lower Cape’s social service problems. But nonetheless, they’re doing their part. Wequassett allows its visitors to pay an optional 1 percent guest donation during their visit to support the resort’s Community Impact Fund.

CHATHAM – The airport commission knows it can’t prohibit certain planes from using Chatham Municipal Airport, or keep them from landing at night. But it could, potentially, make it more expensive for them to do so. At its most recent meeting, the commission discussed changing its landing fee schedule to raise additional revenue for the airport while potentially discouraging use by large planes or ones that operate at night.
