    This just in! Breaking news arrives in many ways in the 21st century. Early newsrooms I worked in had noisy wire service teletype machines that would spit out rolls and rolls of arriving news and sports stories, printed out on thin yellowish paper. A wire service editor, whoever’s desk was closest the machine, would pull off the stories, cut them up and hang them on clipboards. The machines had bell codes for alerts, four rings was an urgent message.

    Thirty-one rescued sea turtles were recently released back into the ocean off the coast of North Carolina. The turtles, many of which were Kemp's ridley sea turtles, were rescued from Cape Cod and Long Island, New York, beaches after suffering from cold-stunning. Thanks to Cape Cod rescuers and rehabilitators from the New England Aquarium, another group of sea turtles found stranded and struggling on cold beaches over the late fall and winter are finally back in the wild.

    Researchers discovered a North Atlantic right whale calf and its mother, Monarch, in Cape Cod Bay, an unusual location for a calf sighting. This is the eleventh right whale calf documented this season, a positive sign for the endangered species. The calf is believed to have been born in the typical calving grounds and went undetected until now.
