Plans to create a new solar farm extending across 56-acres of countryside have been put on hold. Renewable Connections Developments Limited wants to build the plant at Mathurst Farm near Staplehurst, but when the firm’s application came before Maidstone council’s planning committee, councillors voted to defer a decision for more information to be provided.

A valued piece of community open space could soon be registered as a village green - securing it against the possibility of future development. River Lawn, off River Lawn Road in Tonbridge, is owned by Tonbridge and Malling council. Back in February, one of its members, Cllr Mark Hood (Green), proposed that the council voluntarily seek to register the 1500sq metres of open space with Kent County Council as a village green. Village green status would protect the land from any future development.

A primary school previously rated as requiring improvement has been “transformed” according to inspectors in a glowing Ofsted report. Sissinghurst Church of England Primary school was found to be “good” in the key areas of quality of education, behaviour and personal development, and “outstanding” in terms of leadership and early-years provision. Since its last inspection in 2023, the school has a new head teacher, Sarah Holman, and a new chair of governors, Juan Garzon.

The founder of a society dedicated to preserving historic aircraft has died. Lewis Deal, MBE, established the Aircraft Preservation Group back in 1977 and led its evolution to become the distinguished Medway Aircraft Preservation Society Ltd (MAPSL) in 1989, which has Her Majesty The Queen as its patron. Mr Deal was the society’s managing director from its inception until his retirement in 2016.
