► Volvo’s biggest wagon returns► Now plug-in hybrid only► The last of its kind? You might remember in summer 2023 Volvo briefly killed the estate car in the UK. Ever increasing sales of its SUVs were to blame, leaving no space for saloons or wagons. Interest in the brand’s estates surged, persuading Volvo to bring them back. Hooray! But the story doesn’t necessarily end with me driving off into the sunset in a Volvo V90, happy in the knowledge that estates are safe.

Look at it! The range and boot size make it more usable than you’d expect, and it’s surprisingly comfy if you avoid the nastiest of bumps and ruts. It’s also just fast enough to not be a mobile chicane during rush hour. The Microlino hasn’t been crash tested, but it just won’t offer as much protection as a ‘proper’ car, even one as basic as the Dacia Spring. It’s also pricier than some real cars, the Spring included, and the braking and handling are a bit worrisome in extreme manoeuvres.

► Sub-£20k quadricycle► Up to 142 miles of range, 56mph► Unbeatable smiles per mileWhen’s the last time you saw a brand new car that made you stop, stare and either burst out laughing or grin like a village idiot? No, I couldn’t think of anything either, at least until I experienced the ridiculously charming Micro Microlino. As you may have twigged, this isn’t technically a car. Instead, it’s a quadricycle that doesn’t have to adhere to the same stringent safety regulations as the best superminis.

► The Reliant that became a Volvo that became a Citroen► Why we love the Citroen BX ► Gandini’s hatchback drivenSupercars don’t come any more iconic than the Lamborghini Countach, but when’s the last time you actually saw one in person? Possibly never, not something you could have said of another wedge of Gandini design, the Citroen BX. Those who lived in Europe during the 80s and 90s will be very familiar with this angular, hydropneumatically-sprung five-door hatchback and estate.

Early start to get to Hull this morning. I've been rewarded by a Rover 800 on the Humber Bridge and this Kia Magentis just down the road. https://t.co/Z9CVj1QNBt

I'm in Portugal for a couple of days, so here's an Opel Vectra. https://t.co/PGeHXMLyIN

I'm away driving the facelifted Enyaq in Czechia, so obviously I've been on the lookout for old Skodas, too. https://t.co/oRxcRfOBv7
