CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina University is now facing a lawsuit which claims a professor left a student with disabilities alone for hours as he was seized in a classroom. The suit filed Monday accuses CCU, the school’s CoastalLIFE program and its assistant director, Brian Keys, of being negligent in abandoning Jeshua Matzdorff while he was in the preliminary stages of a grand mal seizure.

FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) - An admitted killer from the Pee Dee is set to spend the rest of his life in federal prison, but could still face state charges over the death of a local first responder. 12th Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements is skeptical about Jaremy Smith’s eventual return to the Pee Dee, where he’s accused of murdering a Florence County paramedic at the start of a cross-state crime spree in March of 2024.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A federally recognized advocacy group says it’s investigating allegations surrounding special education programs at Horry County Schools. Disability Rights South Carolina Executive Director Beth Franco confirmed the investigation was ongoing but provided no further comment.
