The British author Somerset Maughan quipped: “I only write when inspiration strikes. Fortunately, it strikes every morning at nine o’clock sharp.” He may as well have been writing about the rigours and stresses of starting and running a start-up venture. Along with the perennial (and yet unanswered) question of whether entrepreneurs are born or made is the question of whether creating a start-up venture is an art or a science.

Along with the perennial (and yet unanswered) question of whether entrepreneurs are born or made is the question of whether creating a start-up venture is an art or a science. It was this question that gave rise to the creation of the GIBS MBA Entrepreneurship Focus programme, a specialised focus area for MBA students.
