Mining is by its nature not sustainable – removing resources from the earth’s crust will eventually deplete them. However, mining is still necessary. Mined minerals and metals are needed for everything from power generation (whether coal or uranium) to electronics (including lithium for batteries and rare earth elements for most technological devices). Mining also holds significant economic importance for and influences other socioeconomic factors, from unemployment to infrastructure development.

The first place many consumers will experience the initial realities of climate change is on the supermarket shelves. Extreme weather events, drought, and flooding are becoming ever more regular occurrences globally, impacting crop yields, food prices, and the availability of fresh produce. Agriculture is on the front line of climate change. Three crops, namely rice, wheat, and corn, feed the global population and provide nearly half of the world’s calories.

In his book, Climate Capitalism: Winning the Global Race to Zero Emissions, London-based reporter for Bloomberg News Akshat Rathi suggests it’s now cheaper to save the world than destroy it and that the green economy is not only possible, but profitable. Politicians have been quick to come up with optimistic – some would say delusional – targets, and many corporate leaders have followed suit. “Net zero by 2030/2040/2050” looks good on election posters or integrated reports, but the reality is considerably more complex.

Has anybody in the history of this city ever had luck in resolving billing issues with @CityofJoburgZA? Because I am at the end of my wits and tired of being pushed from pillar to post with nobody ever actually taking any responsibility or doing what they're literally paid to do.

That other 🦋 app was very quiet for the longest time, but in the past little while, it's started to feel like this place used to, when it was still good. Please find me there. Same handle.
