European petrochemical industry players have had a mixed response to recent rising interest rates in the continent, with concern for the impact on construction and automotive industries contrasting against an attitude from some players that the situation cannot get worse. Earlier in September, the European Central Bank raised interest rates of deposit facilities by up to 4% and main refinancing operations to 4.5%, effective Sept. 20.

Sibur began construction of a 570,000 metric tons per year PP plant in August as part of an expansion of its ZapSibNeftekhim (ZapSib) petrochemicals complex in Tobolsk, Russia.
